About

Ardmore derives from the Gaelic "High Place" and is Latin for zealous or ardent. It is passion and energy that has driven Fee Halstead to strive for excellence since her earliest days. After obtaining her degree in Fine Arts from the University of Natal in South Africa, she lectured until she moved to Ardmore Farm in the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains of Kwazulu-Natal. Here she met Bonnie Ntshalinshali, daughter of their housekeeper, whose polio meant she could not work on the farm. Fee and Bonnie quickly developed an instinctive work synergy. In 1990 Fee and Bonnie were jointly awarded the Standard Bank Young Artist Award.  This is turn enabled them  to offer other young women from the area the opportunity to train at Ardmore. Their efforts have grown from strength, with the studio gaining international recognition.

Ardmore is not just about ceramics.

It is about the artists and life.

It is colour, humour, the unexpected.

Magical little elephants wear cloaks of flowers, spots and stripes; leopards are frozen in the moment before they catch their prey.

Ardmore's work is always full of surprises.

Through this site, we invite you to explore the wonderful world of Ardmore ceramics and now Halsted fabrics and hand-bags inspired by the incredible artists that make up Ardmore.
